Client: United Spiral Pipe, a joint venture of U.S. Steel, SeAH and POSCO.
Location: Pittsburg, California

This producer of high quality, large diameter DSAW pipe primarily for the North American oil and gas industry requires a new spiral wound manufacturing facility. STEVENS assists with the appropriation study, which determines that a 340,000 square foot pre-engineered metal building will satisfy their needs. The project includes installation of new pipe fabrication and finishing equipment.

The engineering team at STEVENS aiso provides construction engineering, construction management and scheduling services for this project. The building is designed as a LEED certified structure according to the 2006 International Building Code and Local Building Code regulations. It is considered 'green' construction due to utilization of a reflective roof to reduce heat transmission, translucent wall lights to take advantage of natural light, and an advanced lighting system.

During the building expansion, specific designs included are site utilities, sanitary, fire protection, water reclamation, along with building ventilation. The plant is designed to produce 300,000 tons per year of spiral welded API line pipe. The building is compliant to California Title 24 regulations. It is also located in a Zone 4 seismic zone.

Total project cost is $ 150 million.
