Prior Engineers Society of Western Pennsylvania Project of the Year AWARD

Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel chooses to save on energy consumption by installing an electric arc furnace (EAF) for production facilities in a brownfield location.

This melt shop appropriation study requires STEVENS engineering team to provide the study, plant and equipment layout, and the arrangement drawings. The client is in need of a 250 ton A.C. electric arc furnace shop, which includes a ladle metallurgical facility, Consteel scrap preheating conveyor system, baghouse, water treatment plant and high voltage switchyard with Static Var Compensator.

In addition to the study and design, STEVENS supplies on site construction management for this project. In total, thirty-five contractors are involved with 800,000 man-hours of work.

STEVENS assists the lender for the project in their due diligence review, which results in complete funding.

The total project cost is $123 million.
