The Sugar Room project for Pure Foods involved constructing a 20' x 20' x 14' specialized space to house new sugar tumbling equipment and conveyors. The room was designed with washable, food-grade wall and ceiling panels to meet strict sanitary requirements for food manufacturing. Key installations included an exhaust fan system, mini-split AC unit, roll-up doors, and man doors to ensure both functionality and ease of operation. Upon completion, this space supports Pure Foods in manufacturing Mexican Wedding Cookies for a new client, expanding their production capabilities.

Scope of Services

  • Food-grade construction standards

The project required specialized attention to dust explosion hazards, as sugar dust is combustible and requires classified electrical components (Class II, Division 1 or 2), proper grounding and bonding, elimination of flat surfaces where dust can accumulate, and specialized dust collection systems. Construction was carefully timed around active production operations with strict shutdown coordination and food safety access controls to minimize downtime. Tight environmental controls for humidity and temperature were integrated to prevent sugar clumping, microbial growth, and equipment malfunctions.
