The ideal candidate will have project management experience in industrial construction markets. The Project Manager position is responsible for providing oversight for all phases of industrial construction projects, including coordinating employees, subcontractors, materials, equipment, while ensuring that specifications are being followed, and work is performed within quality standards as well as on schedule and within budget.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide leadership and to establish and maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with all those involved in the project.

Organize and execute the project safety compliance program within the guidelines of company policies. Initiate project safety meetings for on-site supervisors and labor force.

Interface with the client as his primary contact, by receiving and communicating initial project setup information and periodic project status, writing significant project related correspondence, and representing the Company in meetings.

Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the provisions and requirements of all contract documents, including plans, specifications, owner’s contract, subcontracts, and purchase orders.

Develop and/or analyze the preliminary project documentation, such as project code of accounts, subcontracts and purchase orders.

Organize and plan the execution of the physical work.

Develop the project schedule and direct its long-term planning and execution.

Communicate/coordinate schedule and plan with subcontractors and vendors.

Recognize on-site activities which may impede project progress or jeopardize compliance to project/contract requirements. Prepare and submit related informational documents to the client or other responsible parties and implement corrective measures.

Maintain strict control of the project budget for each work activity. Report monthly on the progress and current profitability of the project.

Write subcontracts and purchase orders for field generated purchases and contracts. Review and approve related subcontractor and vendor invoices and change requests.

Prepare, quote and negotiate contract changes with the General Manager’s guidance.

Maintain open communication with all other support and business units involved with the project.

Maintain open line of communication with the local union officials.

Promote goodwill with clients, architects, engineers etc., to facilitate construction activities and future repeat business.

Supervise the project activities of the on-site project engineer, field superintendents, office manager and clerk.

Participate in bidding, pre-construction services, budgeting and Continuous Improvement Programs.

 

Skills

A bachelor’s degree with major coursework in Construction Management Construction Science, Building Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.

Five (5) years of project management experience in the construction industry.

Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.

Able to manage a team of employees and multiple projects.

Experienced at compiling and following strict budgets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate assigned project work.

Evaluate work for compliance to applicable codes, accepted engineering practices and STEVENS Construction’s standards.

Maintain and update specifications and contract manuals for the project.

Organize the project drawings into working files, distribute drawing revisions to relevant parties, and maintain accurate as-built drawings.

Prepare, transmit and expedite shop drawings, catalog cuts, samples and other submittals to the Owner/ Engineer for approval. Maintain logs for all.

Work with Project Scheduler to update / formalize the project schedule status, maintain changes and submit revisions.

Develop and maintain schedules for the delivery of equipment and materials, and assist in their procurement.

Advise the Superintendent and Project Manager on the compliance of the subcontractors and vendors to material and performance criteria.

Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the provisions and requirements of all contract documents, including plans, specifications, owner’s contract, subcontracts and purchase orders.

Ensure effective communication and coordination of assigned projects between all disciplines and all other project participants.

Input weekly quantities and assist in the monthly profit analysis of the project.

Assist in the preparation of estimates and quotations for extra work.

Meet the subcontractors and vendors on matters of a technical nature.

Recognize technical problems within various disciplines and initiate appropriate corrective actions.

Assist Project Manager/Superintendent in the efficient control and management of the project; in all areas of execution – Safety, Quality, and Productivity.

 

Required Skills

Bachelor’s Degree with major coursework in Engineering Construction Science, Building Science, Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related field is preferred.

Two plus (2+) years of professional experience in the industrial construction industry, with experience in concrete, excavation, underground and exposed piping, mechanical, structural or equipment setting is desired.

Strong working knowledge of interpreting and producing engineering drawings and schematics.

Mathematical proficiency utilizing fractions, percentages, ratios for practical situations.

Ability to solve practical problems and examine a variety of tangible variables.

Knowledge of local, state, and federal building code regulations.

Accurate and precise attention to detail.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent business and technical writing;

Ability to focus on details as required, and have the ability to work well within a deadline driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

Coordinate safety activities with the Division General Manager and Corporate Safety Director to assure effective implementation of the zero-injury safety system.
