Stevens Engineers & Constructors has an excellent opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated Piping Estimator to join our Pittsburgh Operations Team. The ideal candidate will have estimating and project management experience in industrial construction markets. The Piping Estimator position is responsible for accurately estimating the costs associated with process and industrial piping projects. This position requires a strong understanding of piping installation and fabrication processes, industry standards, and the ability to collaborate with various teams to deliver comprehensive and competitive project estimates. The Piping Estimator works collaboratively with other estimators, project managers, engineers, and vendors to solicit and analyze subcontractor proposals, ensuring that all project expectations are met.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Performs estimating activities to ensure the accurate preparation and submission of competitive and profitable proposals, within prudent corporate parameters.

In conjunction with the Lead Estimator, formulate bidding strategies for all major projects.

Read, interpret, and understand mechanical drawings/prints and specifications.

Thoroughly reviews estimates, scope, pricing and assembly of proposals prior to submission.

Consults with clients, engineers, subcontractors, and material suppliers to discuss and formulate estimates, effect cost reductions, and resolve issues.

May perform estimates individually or as part of an estimating team.

Maintains current subcontractor and vendor source information for support unit use.

Monitors all contract purchasing by estimating to assure placement of orders within planned buying goals, with qualified subcontractors.

Cooperates with Business Development personnel in affecting proper goals and strategies.

Actively pursues and participates in the development of new clients.

Electronically maintain records of all working documents and data to back up estimates.

Promote a safe and injury-free work environment.

Required Skills

Advanced project estimator skills that include performing engineering calculations and being conversant in engineering nomenclature to effectively communicate with project team members, clients, subcontractors, and vendors. Ability to offer constructability ideas to effectively reduce costs to customer associated with the project, and position Company in favorable standing on bid submissions.

Experience preparing detailed conceptual cost estimates

Understanding of piping installation and fabrication processes, industry standards.

Knowledge and understanding of unit costs and the factors that affect construction costs

Accurate and precise attention to detail.

Ability to understand and communicate basic construction concepts.

Advanced organizational and time management skills.

Strong written and oral communication skills.

Able to work on multiple projects.

Able to build solid working relationships with project team members, vendors, and customers.

Ability to work effectively with all levels in an organization.

Strong work ethic - results driven.

Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Access, InEight and other construction/project management software packages.

This individual will be responsible for project financial transactions including job cost transactions, preparation of monthly payment requests, coordination of all subcontract change orders, payments, schedule evaluation, forecasting, and waivers/affidavits. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Reviews owner’s contracts to ensure all terms and requirements are being met.
Organizes, enters and maintains budget information in project accounting system.
Reviews and enters purchase order and subcontract agreements; manage subcontractor payment distributions.
Develops and/or tracks detailed procurement and construction resource loaded schedules; supports management and supervision through preparation, updating and maintenance of forecasts and identification of schedule and performance variances utilizing earned value methodology.
Analyzes job cost and identify problems; compiles and issues project performance reports; brings critical issues to the immediate attention of appropriate management personnel.
Actively leads the billing process including regular cash flow maintenance; helps to identify over/under billing situations.
Compiles and maintains change order documentation; assist in presentation to customer.
Reviews and tracks waivers, affidavits, and collections, maintain bond information request forms.
Utilizes analytical systems, methods and tools to monitor the project and complete weekly and monthly progress reports to management and/or customer as needed.
Participates in project review meetings; assist in job closeout process.
Provides job and corporate audit assistance.

Skill Requirements
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in construction management, accounting, business administration or a related field is preferred.
One (1) year of related project controls and administration experience preferred, but not required.
Overnight and extended travel may be required.
Must be adept at problem-solving, including being able to identify and resolve issues in a timely manner.
Must use the utmost discretion in handling confidential information.
Must possess strong interpersonal skills.
Must be able to communicate clearly, both written and orally.
Must be able to effectively read and interpret information, present numerical data in a resourceful manner, and skillfully gather and analyze information.
Must be able to prioritize and plan work activities as to use time efficiently.
Must be organized, accurate, thorough, and able to monitor work for quality.
Must be dependable, able to follow instructions, and respond to management direction

Provide administrative support for the Project Manager and Project Team.

Assists in the preparation of the weekly union payroll.

Order office supplies for the project site.

Setup and maintain both electronic and hard copy files.

Tracking change orders, RFI’s and submittal packages.

Scan and copy documents.

Preparation of correspondences, presentations, documents, manuals, information packages and/or reports.

Perform daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting for the Project Team.

Handle requests for information and/or documents for the Project Team as required.

Assist with special projects.

Other activities may be required to be performed as needed.
