The ideal candidate will have estimating experience in heavy industrial markets such as steel, aerospace, or chemical processing disciplines for the purpose of coordinating all technical activities for assigned projects. The Project Engineer will be involved in pre-planning, scoping purchase orders and sub contracts, enforcing contracts; executing and evaluating all aspects of construction, surveying, adherence to best practices, quality assurance; recognition, quantification and appropriate notice of change in scope events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate assigned project work.

Evaluate work for compliance to applicable codes, accepted engineering practices and STEVENS Construction’s standards.

Maintain and update specifications and contract manuals for the project.

Organize the project drawings into working files, distribute drawing revisions to relevant parties, and maintain accurate as-built drawings.

Prepare, transmit and expedite shop drawings, catalog cuts, samples and other submittals to the Owner/ Engineer for approval. Maintain logs for all.

Work with Project Scheduler to update / formalize the project schedule status, maintain changes and submit revisions.

Develop and maintain schedules for the delivery of equipment and materials, and assist in their procurement.

Advise the Superintendent and Project Manager on the compliance of the subcontractors and vendors to material and performance criteria.

Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the provisions and requirements of all contract documents, including plans, specifications, owner’s contract, subcontracts and purchase orders.

Ensure effective communication and coordination of assigned projects between all disciplines and all other project participants.

Input weekly quantities and assist in the monthly profit analysis of the project.

Assist in the preparation of estimates and quotations for extra work.

Meet the subcontractors and vendors on matters of a technical nature.

Recognize technical problems within various disciplines and initiate appropriate corrective actions.

Assist Project Manager/Superintendent in the efficient control and management of the project; in all areas of execution – Safety, Quality, and Productivity.

 

Required Skills

Bachelor’s Degree with major coursework in Construction Science, Building Science, Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related field is preferred.

Entry Level experience in the industrial construction industry, with experience in concrete, excavation, underground and exposed piping, mechanical, structural or equipment setting is desired.

Strong working knowledge of interpreting and producing engineering drawings and schematics.

Mathematical proficiency utilizing fractions, percentages, ratios for practical situations.

Must be willing to do some travel.

Ability to solve practical problems and examine a variety of tangible variables.

Knowledge of local, state, and federal building code regulations.

Accurate and precise attention to detail.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent business and technical writing;

Ability to focus on details as required, and have the ability to work well within a deadline driven environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Performs structural design and analysis calculations using governing codes and standards, engineering formulas, skills, and experience.
  • Reviews Client's technical documentation and requirements.
  • Maintains project technical files.
  • Controls of subcontracted civil engineering documents.
  • Considers the strength of construction materials and select appropriately.
  • Provides technical advice on safe designs and construction.
  • Provides drawings for own designs and produce sketches to incorporate in drawings by designers/drafters.
  • Obtains planning and building regulations approval.
  • Monitors and inspects all work undertaken by contractors to ensure structural soundness.
  • Inspects properties to evaluate the conditions and foundations.
  • Prepares design specifications for reinforced concrete, buildings, earthworks, underground networks, piling works, and soil improvement.
  • Develops calculation notes for reinforced concrete, piling works, and stormwater collection systems.

SKILL FACTORS

The ideal candidate will have project management experience industrial construction markets. The Project Manager position is responsible for providing oversight for all phases of industrial construction projects, including coordinating employees, subcontractors, materials, equipment, while ensuring that specifications are being followed, and work is performed within quality standards as well as on schedule and within budget.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish budgets for the various elements of the project.\Attend all project meetings; prepare and distribute minutes.
  • Review customers purchase order to verify scope of supply and amount.
  • Establish project schedule.
  • Coordinate engineering and construction efforts between all parties.
  • Assure that project is kept on schedule and that milestones are satisfied.
  • Assure that client is being satisfied in his demands.
  • Notify customer quickly of any changes in the contract price and the associated reasons.
  • Prepare and issue monthly reports to the client.
  • Check CDMG’s monthly invoices for accuracy.
  • Assure that all calculations, documents, drawings, etc. are returned to the client at completion of project.
  • Complete CDMG close-out documentation.

SKILL AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Typically at least ten (10) years of experience in engineering projects as group leader or above. Bachelor’s degree or experience at this position with a previous employer

INTER-RELATIONSHIPS

Contact with all levels of personnel within the company, clients, vendors, and contractors.

Maintains a very close relationship with the client. Develops relationships with multiple people at the client locations. Interfaces with senior management of the company on project and overall company issues.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Overtime and out of town travel occasionally required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • First line supervisor responsible for single discipline coordination of drafting and design projects, including first line supervision of drafting and design personnel.
  • Distributes workload within their group and coordinates manpower with other group leaders within the department.

  • Must be flexible in job assignments, travel, and working schedules.
  • A thorough understanding of technical fundamentals within discipline is required.
  • General computer knowledge and experience with at least one (1) CADD program is required.

Prepares complete sets of complex drawings which include multiple views, detail drawings, and assembly drawings. Drawings include complex design features that require considerable drafting skills to visualize and portray. Assignments regularly require a use of mathematics to compute weights, capacities, dimensions, quantities of materials, etc. Performs some drafting supervision. Performs checking on projects with low to medium complexity. Selects required information from engineers sketches, previous designs, vendor catalogs, and technical guides.

SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Five years of related work experience with and Associates Degree in Drafting or Design. Experience across multiple CADD platforms is preferred as well as extensive 3D modeling capabilities and interpretation of 3D scan files from third party vendor.

INTER-RELATIONSHIPS

Extensive communication within the engineering disciplines and projects. Periodic contact with clients and vendors.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Inside office work with periodic site visits/travel. Expected to monitor workload with respect to overtime. Works overtime and/or shift work when required.
